I'm not the only one who has those awkward 'Oh, you're 13/14/15/16 years old?!' moments in this fandom, right? I mean, I'm in my mid-twenties, and this is my first time in a fandom that skews towards a young demographic, and part of me is like HIDE THE PORN but then I remember what I did online as a 16 year old, and then I go and have my quarterlife crisis somewhere else.

Yeah, I'm 22, I have a full-time job, this fandom makes me feel a bit elderly.


Then again, when I was 16 I was reading rather bad Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy porn. In many ways I'd like to hope I'm passing on the torch, and that young dorks like the one I once was are continuing the tradition of getting off on things that are gratuitously silly and British. There's definitely worse things they could be reading.

Depends on the fandom, really - in my experience, unless it's for some wildly successful big-ass American fandom, they usually take a month or so before they fizzle out.

I have to say, though, I'm pleasantly surprised that HH has a fandom at all, let alone such a friendly and active one. And it is nice that it's taking off here, seeing as most of the fans otherwise seem to be mainly based on Tumblr.

Fingers crossed that this state of affairs continues!

Sotherby is talking to Charles, occasionally ending his sentences with 'your majesty' or 'sire'. Should either of those be capitalised?

I hope this is allowed, but it is kinda relevant to HH. I might be coming to UK in the spring for 6 weeks and I´d love to visit as many historical places like museums, castles etc. What would be a good area to live that is close to such things? I won´t have a car and London is too expensive. I love the countryside so it won´t necessary have to be a city, but it would be nice if it weren´t too far from one.

York is a great place to stay for all things historical.
If you stay in or near the city you can walk everywhere and there are more than enough things to see and do. There's the Minster which is amazing in itself but has Roman ruins in the crypts beneath it. There's the Jorvik viking centre, which is great, York Dungeon, which is a lot of fun in the spirit of HH, and one of the many many museums there has a preserved cell where Dick Turpin was held. That's really only scratching the surface, but I don't want to sound like the Tourist Board. I've had great holidays in York.
It's surrounded by lovely countryside and you could maybe get coach trips to other historical attractions throughout the north of England. National Express coaches that go from city to city are very cheap, especially compared to rail travel. There are lots of amazing things to see in the North of England and it's cheaper than down South.

Okay I can't quite believe I'm going to ask this but my desperation levels have hit an all time high and this seems like the best place to ask.

Since so many people here are writing/into RPF I was wondering if there was any chance anyone might be into celeb RP and want to try their hand at writing Mat. I've been looking for someone to write him for about two years now and since most RPers are in the US and have no clue who he is I'm having no luck at all.

I'll do anything to make this easier for you, including making icons, and helping with research.

I've been killing time all afternoon by playing the Terrible Treasures game - and guys, I'm convinced they're playing up to us. There's extended scenes of shirtless Mat, and a game where you have to cover Ben Willbond in honey. (Admittedly, it's more along the lines of launching CG blobs in his vague direction, rather than 'use the mouse to lovingly rub it all over his nipples!', but he's making some damn suggestive faces while it's happening.)

It's either that or the humidity's getting to me.

this is genuinely not having a go at anyone but there are some fics that seem to have stalled half way through. I've contributed a few fics on here and I know i've got stuck a few times and contemplated giving up though I've struggled through in the end. Thinking about HH cast is a great incentive.

I wondered though whether, if people genuinely can't finish a fic, they could post somewhere asking for someone to finish it? That way people aren't beating heads against laptops trying to finish something they can't and the lovely fics get filled and not left hanging :o)

I know where you're coming from but I think it's jumping the gun to say that if a week has gone by without an update, it's been abandoned. I'd be hesitant to step in in those cases.

However, if an author is happy to ask for someone else to finish it, or would be happy to just post a note to say the fic has been abandoned, that would be great. But the author would have to state they're happy for someone else to take their idea and run with it.

Im not sure if its just me, but I'd love to know how they decide who is going to play who in the sketches. I mean, it isnt like they all stick to one character type, theyre all fantastically diverse and could all possibly play any role, I'd just love to know how they decide it.
