Round 3 - Return of the Meme

General Rules
  • Personal attacks and any kind of abusive trolling, hate speech, or bullying are obviously forbidden. Anon comments violating this rule will be deleted, signed in members will be banned.
  • If your comment is deleted/screened/frozen and you don't know why, please email the mod at  hhanonmeme@gmail.com. (If you notice it happening to your comments and you know they're safe, a quick email for the mod to come and unscreen them would be helpful also).
  • Prompt posts will close to new prompts at 3,000 comments.
Prompting Rules
  • One prompt per comment.
  • Please follow the correct format (see below).
  • Include trigger warnings in the subject line. Use your discretion and please be considerate.
  • If your prompt is missing something, such as a subject or a warning, repost it in it’s entirety. It is not enough to reply to your own comment with the missing information. The mod will delete the previous duplicate comment.
  • Multiple fills of the same prompt by different author!anons are allowed.
  • If for any reason you start a fill but feel you can't finish the WIP you've created, and if you're happy to let someone finish it for you, put it up for HH Meme Fostering and Adoption.
  • Prompts for projects other than Horrible Histories (ie. Spy, Gavin and Stacy, Rev, St. Trinian's, the O2 adverts etc., and RPF involving actors from those projects should be posted at the What? They've acted in other things?! post.
Format of Prompts
  • Put [RPF] before RPF prompts.
  • For crossover prompts: "[Crossover], HH Character(s)/Other Character(s), [Fandom]"
  • Anyone, everyone, no one? Use "Other."
  • Put [GEN] before GEN prompts, just so you don't get unwanted shipping.
  • Use appropriate warnings. I'm trusting you all to know what that means.
  • Don't embed any photos, videos or other media.
  • Copy and paste links in full; anon comments with active coded links are marked as spam  and the mod doesn't switch accounts often enough - it may be a few days before those  screened comments are de-screened (see: emailing the mod a heads up if it happens).
Archiving Prompts and Fills
That's nearly the end of the storia, for onto the scene comes our much loved meme: HAIL TO THE QUEEN OF PROMPTIA.

Prepare him please,, he'd been asked, and now he must make Nelson ready for the long, last voyage home.

Please, I can't bear to do so, he'd been asked, and he feels white-hot anger course through his veins as he looks down at Nelson's body.

Please, I can't bear to do so, he'd been asked with a hand on his wrist and an imploring look on Hardy's face, and now he must make sure Nelson arrives safely, when all he wants to do is scream.

The ship rolls in the swell, and the medals on Nelson's jacket clink as they come together.

"God-damn you," he whispers, frustration lacing his voice as he slumps on his chair.

He takes a gulp of brandy as he stares at the body in front of him, feeling the burn as it courses down his throat, rubbing a hand over his eyes and feeling them slip shut for a moment at the blessed darkness.

Please.

He's never been able to say please himself.

Oh Hardy has - long nights on watch with nothing else to do apart from squint at charts, long days where there is no chance or will to resist, long weeks, months, years spent on board with a man who doesn't want you back.

But he hasn't.

He's never been able to say please, forget him, or please, stay, or please, I want you, stay for one night and forget about him, he doesn't want you back.

And now he must make sure Nelson gets home, because Hardy said please.

He takes another gulp of brandy, and his eyes flick over to the barrel placed in the corner of the room.

Please, I can't bear to do so.

He slowly stands, walks over and looks down at the man - the brilliant, genius, confident, death-defying man but a man in the end - on the table.

Please, I can't bear to do so.

His hand reaches out, takes one of the medals on Nelson's jacket between his fingers, rubs it and feels the dried blood coming off in tiny flakes.

Please, I can't bear to do so.

He takes another gulp of brandy, stares at the barrel for a long moment, anger, love, hurt, betrayal jumbling together with the alcohol flooding his veins.

Please, I can't bear to do so.

He looks down at the man, at Nelson on the table, and downs the rest of the glass, a bitter smile appearing on his face.

"You'll get home," he murmurs, reaching for the lid of the barrel and removing it, the fumes wafting through the small room.

"Oh don't worry, you'll get home," he whispers, as he starts to prepare Nelson for his long, last voyage.

Please.

OP - OUCH! Right in the heart. Dr. Beatty's emotions are so relatable they make my heart twist in sympathy and the repeated idea of Hardy going "Please, I can't bear to do so." then Beatty doing it out of his unrequited love for Hardy. Dr. Beatty being so vengeful to a dead body because he needs to get some closure for this love disaster - *bawls*. I needed an unhappy ending and you nailed it!!

I love this; Thank You!!

*flails back*

You're welcome! <3 <3 <3 xinfinity

I have this weird love for futile endings where "They lived happily ever after," is not true; give me grief because more often than not life messes up your plan.

I think it's telling that one of my favorite novels is "The Age of Innocence" where they love, but have to chose whether to put aside their feelings for the good of others or to be 'selfish'.

Thank you for the wonderful fic!!! <3
