(Yes! They wouldn't be them! I could maybe, maybe have coped with Maltravers being one rank higher than Blenkinsop, because he's always cast as the protective one anyway, but... the other way around? Nope, can't deal with it. And they would still have had to be twenty-somethings. So, yes, interesting though a fic about the suddenly more realistic them would be? It's never going to replace my headcanon. Now if only I could think about my about headcanon without wanting to cry, that would be super.)

awesome research amine! And it did seem odd that they'd be Second Lieutenants, that didn't sound right at all especially as it seemed like quite a high-powered briefing.

also, fantastic research on the medals. I didn't know where the start with them!

My headcanon will stay my headcanon! I think their public school together, joining up young and innocent then surviving and living happily in a cottage is a collective fandom headcanon...

It really is marvellous, the way we all seem to have taken up largely the same headcanon for a pair of characters who have two minutes of screentime. :'D
