Round 3 - Return of the Meme

General Rules

Personal attacks and any kind of abusive trolling, hate speech, or bullying are obviously forbidden. Anon comments violating this rule will be deleted, signed in members will be banned.
If your comment is deleted/screened/frozen and you don't know why, please email the mod at hhanonmeme@gmail.com. (If you notice it happening to your comments and you know they're safe, a quick email for the mod to come and unscreen them would be helpful also).
Prompt posts will close to new prompts at 3,000 comments.

Prompting Rules

One prompt per comment.
Please follow the correct format (see below).
Include trigger warnings in the subject line. Use your discretion and please be considerate.
If your prompt is missing something, such as a subject or a warning, repost it in it’s entirety. It is not enough to reply to your own comment with the missing information. The mod will delete the previous duplicate comment.
Multiple fills of the same prompt by different author!anons are allowed.
If for any reason you start a fill but feel you can't finish the WIP you've created, and if you're happy to let someone finish it for you, put it up for HH Meme Fostering and Adoption.

Don't embed any photos, videos or other media.
Copy and paste links in full; anon comments with active coded links are marked as spam and the mod doesn't switch accounts often enough - it may be a few days before those screened comments are de-screened (see: emailing the mod a heads up if it happens).

The first time he meets his two best friends in the whole wide world (a little dramatic, perhaps, but he’s always been one for big statements) he has to pull one away from strangling the other.

“Look,” he huffs, bodily dragging her (and that is an effort. Because for a reasonably short eleven year old, shorter than him at any rate, she has an alarming amount of strength) from the cowering boy in the corner, “I’m just saying that strangulation isn’t the best greeting.”

“Why not?” Lizzie, as he vaguely remembers from the sorting ceremony, spits - still writhing with her nails extended towards Richard’s eyes.

“…Because you could kill him?”

“He deserves it.”

…Right.

“I don’t!” The boy, he wants to go with Richard, whimpers from his corner, poking his head up and staring with incredibly desperate eyes, “I’m a nice guy, I swear!”

“He’s evil-“

He gives the boy, probably Richie, a long stare – just to see if continued scrutiny will make him turn into a snake or start performing the dark arts or even pull up his long sleeves to reveal the unmistakable brand of a death eater… “He appears to be a Hufflepuff.”

“You see? That definitely proves that he’s-! …Pardon?”

“A Hufflepuff,” he repeats mildly, waiting for a second before releasing the now gawping Lizzie, “not an evil genius from Ravenclaw. Not a bold slaughterer from Gryffindor. Not even a hissing dark lord in waiting from Slytherin, though my dad was a Slytherin and so I’m inclined to say that that view is deeply outdated anyway. He’s a Hufflepuff.”

…A long pause.

Lizzie is staring, as Richard finally uncoils from his corner and lets out a remarkably timid sniff.

“...But he’s a Black,” she finally says, with an expression of confusion so open that he forgives her a little just for that, “they’re all completely and utterly evil, everybody knows that.”

He considers that for a second, still as balanced as ever “…Well, judging by his name and his house I think he’s from one of the less completely and utterly evil branches, don’t you?”

“…I-“

“My grandmother almost disowned my father when he refused to name me after the stars,” Richard gives quietly, with another shy sniff as he slowly rises to his feet “…Has disowned me now, actually. All my older siblings were Slytherins, I’m the first Hufflepuff that’s ever been in the family.”

…A longer pause.

“Oh,” Lizzie murmurs, slowly shutting her mouth and looking down at her feet “…Sorry about that, then.”

“It’s alright.”

“Wasn’t very nice of me.”

“I’ve had worse.”

“…Really?” He has to ask, a little disgusted at the world as Richard blushes bright red and looks down at his feet.

“Well… My cousins were and are always rather violent people, I’m afraid. And mother did always insist on me playing with Edmund and Margaret and Edward and all of them.”

An even longer pause.

Lizzie is looking almost angry now, it quite suits her, “do they go to this school?”

“…Yes? Edmund and Margaret a few years above, Edward in the same year as us.”

“Want me to beat them up for you?”

“Lizzie,” he admonishes… But may already be grinning, and probably already has that light in his eyes that his siblings always groan about when he sees an adventure right in front of him, “we could probably catch them in the dungeons, if we were quick and picked the right time of day.”

And Richard stares between them, with terribly wide eyes… And laughs.

And so a wonderful friendship is born, one entirely capable of surviving both he and Lizzie getting detention for miraculously hexing the arrogant Edward the moment he tries to lay a finger on poor Richie again (it’s worth it, after all, Richie manages to bring them ice-cream afterwards).
