Round 3 - Return of the Meme
General Rules- Personal attacks and any kind of abusive trolling, hate speech, or bullying are obviously forbidden. Anon comments violating this rule will be deleted, signed in members will be banned.
- If your comment is deleted/screened/frozen and you don't know why, please email the mod at hhanonmeme@gmail.com. (If you notice it happening to your comments and you know they're safe, a quick email for the mod to come and unscreen them would be helpful also).
- Prompt posts will close to new prompts at 3,000 comments.
Prompting Rules
- One prompt per comment.
- Please follow the correct format (see below).
- Include trigger warnings in the subject line. Use your discretion and please be considerate.
- If your prompt is missing something, such as a subject or a warning, repost it in it’s entirety. It is not enough to reply to your own comment with the missing information. The mod will delete the previous duplicate comment.
- Multiple fills of the same prompt by different author!anons are allowed.
- If for any reason you start a fill but feel you can't finish the WIP you've created, and if you're happy to let someone finish it for you, put it up for HH Meme Fostering and Adoption.
- Prompts for projects other than Horrible Histories (ie. Spy, Gavin and Stacy, Rev, St. Trinian's, the O2 adverts etc., and RPF involving actors from those projects should be posted at the What? They've acted in other things?! post.

(Anonymous) 2011-11-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)They pause, right at the door of the building, stare at each other in a confused way for a moment before slowly spinning back on their heels and facing the man marching ever closer.
“d'Aigalliers,” Nelson sighs, with a weary roll of his eyes (even the unseeing one, as ever) over to his side – he can only hide a smile, slink back a little behind the great man as damn d'Aigalliers comes up before them like some strutting peacock, “I thought our discussion was long enough earlier tonight.”
“Not long enough, monsieur Nelson, I did not say all that I had to say!” d'Aigalliers snaps-
“Really?” Only to be interrupted, by Nelson’s calm smile as he shifts with his remaining arm hanging casually by his side, “because you didn’t really say anything.”
d'Aigalliers goes red. A humiliated, helplessly angry sort of red.
“So,” Nelson continues anyway, now with a smug smirk sideways that makes him repress a giggle by the skin of his teeth, “are you going to babble more nonsense at me and my esteemed companion? Or are you actually going to get to the point this time and come out with something sensible?”
d'Aigalliers goes purple. A shade that simply can’t be healthy on any man, “you think that you are so great!”
“Nonsense, obviously,” Nelson mutters sideways, and he bites back a snort.
“You are not! The French empire is the greatest empire in the world, you shall see!” d'Aigalliers still continues to glare, with an arrogant lift to his nose that does his face absolutely no favours, “because we shall beat you, beat you and drown your men and execute you like the dog you are!”
He tenses, a little…
“That’s nice,” Nelson only drawls, tilting his head with that show of charming arrogance that always suits him so well, “anything else?”
“…You are a dog, you know.”
“No I’m not,” his Nelson only looks unimpressed, a faint smirk still quirking up his lips as he tilts his head and regards d'Aigalliers and somehow manages to look like no situation has ever been so boring to him, “I’m a man. And if you can’t tell the difference between a man and a dog then I do think that you should go back to school and stop dabbling in freemasonry, Mr. d'Aigalliers.”
Oh, and the man has gone scarlet now. He almost feels like offering the services of Beatty (he’s sure that his friend wouldn’t mind that much), “how dare you talk to me in such a way!”
“Such a true way?” Nelson murmurs, sending another terribly amused glance across at him.
“No!” Even as d'Aigalliers puffs himself up, still about as intimidating as a peacock after the end of mating season, “you, a one-eyed and one-armed pup, have no right to speak to me, a famed French commander and vice-admiral, in such a way! You are disrespectful, idiotic, undeserving-“
He almost, very nearly, steps forwards to cut off d'Aigalliers’ damn ranting with a well placed fist.
But his Nelson, his dear Nelson, stops him with but a brief glance – slowly tilts his head back towards d'Aigalliers, watches and waits until the loathsome man finishes… And Smirks.
…Smirks.
This should be fun.
FILL: The Most Brilliant, Nelson/Hardy (With implied and unrequited Beatty/Hardy), PG-13 [1B/2]

“I am no pup, I am an experienced commander who is used to winning victories and getting results. Remember the battle of Cape St Vincent? I helped to win that. Remember the capture of Corsica? I played a huge role in it despite the loss of my eye,” Nelson tilts his head, smiles just slightly – the smile of a man wonderfully used to winning, “I would recommend not calling me a ‘pup’ when my own victories far outnumber your unrewarded attempts to stand alongside me.”
…The man is still staring.
“You also say that I am disrespectful,” giving Nelson’s smile a chance to grow all the wider, his healthy eye to glitter all the more enthusiastically as he does what he does best – fighting for the right cause with everything that he has, “and that, perhaps, I cannot deny. I do sometimes ignore orders, I admit. I do sometimes know that my knowledge of a situation is better than my superiors. But I only act in such a way when I think that victory will result, and I only continue acting in such a way because victory is usually the result.”
Still staring.
“Another point is that I am idiotic,” Nelson only laughs slightly in the face of it, a calm laugh – an extremely calm laugh that makes him realize that he has never loved the man more, “that I can deny as blatantly untrue in my naval career. I cannot say that I always make sane seeming decisions, no. I cannot say that I am wise in other matters, of course not. But I will humbly say that I know as much about matters of naval warfare as it is possible for me to know – and that that knowledge has helped keep not only me alive but the members of my crew alive too.”
Still staring.
“Your final point is that I am undeserving,” as Nelson, his Nelson, steps forwards – until they are standing practically nose to nose in the most righteously intimidating of ways, “and this I must disagree with. I was not born into the aristocracy, I was not raised from birth for the higher things in life. I was the son of a reverend, my mother died when I was but a child. My uncle took me onto his ship and I worked my way up. I learned my trade, I suffered setbacks – I endured illnesses and injuries and yet still applied myself every second to reach a higher position and help as many people as I could. I cannot say that I deserve everything that the world has given me, but I have worked hard for it and I resent the implication that everything was handed to me on a silver platter.”
“…I-“ d'Aigalliers finally manages to splutter, still staring like an utter fool.
“No, don’t say anything,” but Nelson hushes him without a pause, hushes him with only the slightest smirk and the briefest finger, “I already know your thoughts, Mr. d'Aigalliers. You believe that a one-eyed, one-armed, disrespectful, idiotic, undeserving ‘pup’ cannot possibly do anything, don’t you?”
d'Aigalliers remains silent, slightly gawping.
“And you are wrong,” as Nelson’s chin lifts before him, and Nelson’s eyes glitter, and Nelson becomes that figure of near-myth that has always lurked inside of him, “for I shall beat you, d'Aigalliers. I shall destroy your ships, I shall halt your emperor’s progress and I shall win a victory for my country so surely that you will be left clutching only dust and gawping at what this one-eyed, one-armed ‘pup’ can do.”
…Silence.
“Goodnight, d'Aigalliers,” as Nelson turns on his heel, and gently taps his arm to get them moving again, “do send my respects to our host.”
…And so they leave, calmly and professionally. And leave d'Aigalliers gawping so helplessly behind them.

“Truly amazing.”
“Thank you.”
“I mean it.”
“I know you do, Hardy,” Nelson finally smiles, turning and halting him with the touch of a hand and the fond flash of an eye “…And I appreciate it. I couldn’t do anything without the amount of faith you put in me and you deserve all the thanks in the world for it.”
…And his heart may melt at that, just a little bit, “I love you, you know that?”
Nelson’s smile broadens, his hands tighten ever so sweetly upon his wrists, “just as I adore you, Hardy.”
“And I can’t wait to tell the rest of the crew about this,” he continues, heart melting all the more as Nelson gently strokes his wrist, “Beatty and everybody else, I’m sure they’ll be just as proud of you as I am and-!”
Nelson’s face has dropped a little at the mention of the rest of the crew, his mouth slightly downturned and his eyes serious in the extremely dim light.
“…What?”
“Let’s not talk about Beatty now,” Nelson covers quietly, and stills his mouth with an incredibly daring kiss the moment that he tries to protest “…We don’t have to be back on the ship until morning, after all, and I quite fancy finding a hotel where we can spend the night and be as loud as we like.”
And he would protest more… “I’m alright with that.”
But Nelson’s smile is so bright, and Nelson is so brilliant, that he decides to leave it just for tonight – and instead dares to snuggle warmly into his commander’s side and keep walking. Off to appreciate the man properly, just as he has always and will always deserve.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-01 12:38 am (UTC)(link)Nelson is BAMF without trying, Hardy is an adorable bulldog all ready to punch out any who dares mess with his Admiral, the French admiral getting PWNed oh so well (why am I picturing Lawry playing him?), the implied naughtiness at the end, and NELSON KNOWING ABOUT BEATTY CRUSHING ON HARDY!!! :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
