Im not sure if its just me, but I'd love to know how they decide who is going to play who in the sketches. I mean, it isnt like they all stick to one character type, theyre all fantastically diverse and could all possibly play any role, I'd just love to know how they decide it.

'Right, we need someone young, sexy, and who looks great in guyliner and a highwayman outfit' ... *All stare at Mat*

What's amusing is that the song is about how Dick Turpin wasn't sexy or glamourous. Mixed messages much?

Thats true actually. Wonder if that was supposed to be kinda ironic? I mean, they could easily have portrayed Dick as repulsive looking (just look at Elizabeth I), but they didnt and as such went along with the whole legend of Dick Turpin.

Then again, given the choice of sexy!Highwayman! Mat, and repulsive!Highwayman, I know which one I'd choose...

The real Dick Turpin had smallpox scars according to Wikipedia. I agree that the song supposed to be kinda ironic - they wanted to please a portion of the fanbase by making him look sexy and swoonsome - and eminently succeeded :-) - but they couldn't have got away with it if the lyrics implied that he was glamorous as well.

I think they might have picked the look because of Adam Ant and his song "Stand and Deliver2 which it parodies :)

Maybe bits of it also has to do with accents? I mean, if you look at the whole 'Irish king bans poetry' sketch, I reckon they may have made Ben king because his Irish accent is the least bad.

Yeah, same if there's any German accents - George I, that guy in the Stalingrad sketch - Ben's usually playing the main character.
